LAOKO recognised at Australia Day Awards

Thank you Snowy Mountains community! Snowy Mountains Wildlife Rescue (LAOKO) received some well-deserved recognition yesterday at the Jindabyne and Cooma Australia Day ceremonies!

We received two awards:

  • Environment Group of the year (Jindabyne)
  • Community Group of the Year Award (Cooma)

Our Vice President, Elena Guarracino, accepted the Environment Group award at the Australia Day breakfast ceremony in Jindabyne. The award was presented by Ginny Stevens (Australia Day Ambassador) and Peter Beer (Snowy Monaro Regional Council).

LAOKO Secretary, Michael Milne, accepted our Community Group of the Year award at the Cooma Australia Day ceremony. The award was presented by Federal member for Eden-Monaro, Kristy McBain.

Receiving this kind of community recognition really gives us a boost. Volunteering our spare time for the rescue and rehabilitation of our local native wildlife and operating a 100% volunteer run, 24/7 charity organisation can be a hard slog. Thank you for your support!
